GLOBAL SERVICES FOOD PROJECT
Living the Global Vision

UCSL/ICSL Global Services has developed a way to put the UCSL/ICSL Global Vision into action in the world.  We have created a strategic partnership with Outreach, Inc. (aka Outreach Africa) to bring a threefold opportunity to our movement and beyond.

THE PROJECT

UCSL/ICSL (soon to be CSL) is about touching 100 million lives in 10 years.  We are doing our part.  We have developed a project that has a threefold benefit (a win-win-win if you like):

  1. Feeding the hungry in Africa (specifically Tanzania, at first, then elsewhere);
  2. Supporting our local USCL/ICSL centers; and
  3. Spreading the Science of Mind teachings globally.

The overall goal is an annual fundraiser to raise enough money for 5 containers of food per year (enough for almost 1.5 million meals per year).  We are starting out with a pilot program which is one container of food or 285,120 meals. Once we have raised enough funds for one container, we will do our first packaging event.  This first packaging event will be somewhere in the Denver metropolitan area. The Project We can package one container in a weekend with a sufficient number of volunteers.  After the food is packaged, it will be shipped to Tanzania Africa for distribution.  We have Science of Mind people at a vetted distribution center in Tanzania.

This project is the first step in a larger vision.  We start with food then move to clean water, medical care, education, sustainability and microloans all the while teaching people to change the way they think so they can change their lives as we do our part in raising the consciousness of the planet.

OUTREACH, INC.

We are proud to affiliate with our strategic partner Outreach, Inc.:

  • They are a non-profit corporation located in Union, Iowa, USA.
  • Their mission is to provide food, clean water, medical care and education to children/people in need, focusing on developing countries to make a life-changing impact for current and future generations.
  • They are an accomplished, outstanding and very reputable organization with high values that is making a huge difference globally.
  • They have many affiliations with UCSL and ICSL.
  • The Executive Team consists of Science of Mind members and ministers.
  • They have packaged over 130 million meals in the last 4 years.

We have been working very closely with Floyd Hammer, Kathy Hamilton and Rev. Cath DePalma (all with Outreach) since February of 2010 to put this project together. I invite you to check out their website www.outreachprogram.org

HOW IT WORKS

  • The cost per meal is 25 cents.
  • The 25 cents per meal includes all necessary materials for packaging the meals (plastic bags, measuring devices, boxes, rice, soy protein, vitamin tablets and dried vegetables).
  • We have doubled the price of a meal to 50 cents for fundraising purposes.
  • Out of every $1.00 we raise,
    • 50 cents goes to feeding the hungry in Africa; Need Food
    • 25 cents goes directly back to the local center that raised the funds; and
    • 25 cents goes to support SOM globally via Global Services.
  • If a local center is not designated, the 25 cents that would have gone to the local center would go to support SOM globally via Global Services.
  • The promotion will offer different opportunities:
  • You can help by prayerfully considering your contribution to reduce the effects of this tragic situation. Any amount you can give may be just enough to save a life today.  Your donations can change the world. Look at what different amounts of funds can buy:
    Buy a bag - $3(6 meals)
    Feed a child for a week - $12
    Feed a family of 4 for a week - $42 (84 meals)
    Buy a box - $108 (216 meals)
Feed a family of four for a month or one child for a year - $208
Feed a family of four for a year - $832
    Buy $1,000 worth (2,000 meals)
$5000 - provides 10,000 meals to feed the hungry
    $54,750 - feeds a village of 100 people for a year

How much hunger can you feed?

Local centers will be provided with all the materials to do a fundraiser at their centers.

(for more information click on Local Centers).

LOCAL CENTERS

Local centers will be able to participate by raising funds, e.g. at a table at Sunday service.  We will be marketing via the ministers and practitioner list serves.  We will be providing, via email, a poster to blow up to 2’ x 3’ to be placed on an easel at a table as well as brochures to have printed to hand out.  The brochures will also act as donation forms for people to pay by check or cash.  Credit card payments will need to go through the website accessed by a laptop at the Sunday service table.  All funds will go directly to a designated account at UCSL Headquarters to be distributed once we have confirmed that enough funds have been raised to fill one container.  To participate, go to CONTACT US and contact one of the Global Services representatives.  We will be happy to assist you.

PACKAGING

Packaging foodIn the beginning (until we raise enough funds to fill one container), we will treat the project strictly as a fundraiser.  Once we have achieved success on the first container and completed our first packaging in the Denver metro area, we will look at bringing smaller packaging events to our local centers. It gets a bit more complicated and costly for Outreach to package less than a full container.  We are optimistic that we can work out the details and redesign the project so that we can bring smaller packaging events of a minimum of 100,000 meals to our local centers once the pilot program proves itself.  Last summer UCSL/ICSL youth packaged 50,000 meals at the annual youth conference.  10,000 of those meals have already gone to Kenya and another 20,000 are being sent there as well.  For those interested, we will put together a voluntourism trip to Tanzania to assist in the food distribution there and then tour the area.

VOLUNTEER

There are 5 Ways to participate as a volunteer:

Volunteer to assist Global Services directly in any number of ways with the Food Project.

  • Volunteer to package food when we have our first packaging in the Denver metro area.
  • Donate to the Food Project (see the DONATE section)
  • Find a Sponsor – work with other nonprofits, organizations, corporations or companies to donate to the Food Project.
  • Once we have raised the funds for a full container, travel via a voluntourism trip to Tanzania to assist in the food distribution there and then tour the area.

For further information, scroll down to Contact Us and contact one of the Global Services members.  We will be happy to assist you.

THE BIGGER VISION

Once the food project is up and running, we focus on clean water.  Outreach has a filtering system that can provide clean water to a village of 8,000 people for one year at an affordable cost.  We have contacted Jonathan Ritchie of Element Four, who has a technology (the Watermill) that can provide clean water out of thin air (even in the middle of the desert).  The machine provides 20 to 30 liters of water per day (enough for a family of 4) for 10 years at a bulk cost of $895 each.  He is excited about working with us.

We will create opportunities for the various indigenous people to sustain themselves.  We are working with Barry Stevens, a UCSL member.  His Costa Rica center is El Puente – The Bridge.  He has instituted a program that teaches illiterate, indigent and indigenous people Science of Mind concepts.  He has already made a significant difference in his local community (food, education, medical care and microloans).  We are working with him to take his program global.

As you can see, Global Services is on the move.  We believe that this project is only the beginning of many creative ideas to expand, grow and support Science of Mind throughout the world and live the Global Vision.

PLEASE JOIN US IN RAISING THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF THE PLANET!

Watch for our marketing on the listserves and the Science of Mind Magazine (also website and enewsletter).

Be a part of the bigger picture, make a difference and have some fun.
